The project involved a major 78,000 s.f. expansion of an existing 43,000 s.f. facility. One hundred thirty-three dock doors were added to the existing 104 doors, and a two story office building and control offices were added to the dock building. A crucial issue for the project was resolving the noise impact on the neighborhood. As part of an acoustic study program many meetings were held with the adjacent property owners, thus ensuring the expansion would not negatively impact the neighborhood. Subsequently, plant material, wood fencing and concrete retaining walls were used for sound absorption.
